FCA "Run for the Son" 5K Race Saturday March 28

The ninth annual “Run for the Son” 5-K race and one-mile fun run/walk will be held Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. Charles Catholic High School in Laplace .  This year's race will be dedicated to Chelsea Duhe, a sophomore at St. Charles Catholic who is battling several serious illnesses and recovering from her second liver transplant.

A new race record was set last year with a total of 275 runners and walkers. It was the second  year that our race had over 200 runners and walkers. In just eight years the “Run for the Son” has grown to be the biggest 5-K race held annually in St. John Parish.

We anticipate that this year’s race will bring increased interest and participation. Runners and walkers will kick off the event with the one-mile race run/walk beginning at 8:00 a.m. Then about 30 minutes later, the 5-K race will begin. After the races, everyone will enjoy food and drinks. We will conclude with the awards ceremony and door prizes.

All of the funds raised will benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and assist River Parishes male and female student athletes in their annual trip to summer camps in June and July. These camps offer a week of “inspiration and perspiration” in beautiful settings all across the country. The athletes will hear many great speakers, compete in athletic competition and clinics, make new friends from different states, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Entry forms will be available Smoothie King, Curves, all local health clubs, at school and here on the website.
