During Science club's first lab session Slime and Snowflakes we had a great turn out. Everyone participated with a lot of enthusiasm while making their own slime. For those who missed out on making their own slime, here are the directions to creating it on your own, adapted from Chemistry.about.com.

Materials:

1 baby food jar with lid

2 bowls

Popsicle sticks for stirring

1 bottle of Elmer's glue

Borax

Water

Food Coloring

Instructions:

1. In one bowl, mix an equal amount of glue and water (4 oz each). Stir the mixture. Add food coloring if you don't want white slime.

2. In another bowl, mix 1 spoonful of borax with 1 cup (8 oz) of water. Stir the mixture.

3. Add one bowl to the other and mix with popsicle stick. Eventually, it will be difficult to mix and you will want to use your hands. Some water may remain in the bowl - that's normal.

4. You have now created a polymer!

Storage Info:

Store it in a baby food jar or in a zip-lock bag. When not in use keep it stored in the fridge. It will lose its shape over time. It also might grow moldy - bleh; obviously, throw out the slime in the trash when that happens. If you colored your slime, it might stain some surfaces, so don't throw it at the wall or leave it on the table too long. Also - do not eat the slime!
