The 9^th annual FCA “Run for the Son” 5K race and one mile fun run/walk was held Saturday March 28, 2009 at St. Charles Catholic High School .  Runners and walkers were excited to greet cool and breezy weather conditions after a week of high humidity and heavy rains. A total of 285 runners and walkers participated setting a new race record.

Mary Smith and Ben Bergeron were the winners in the 5K race. Smith’s time was 23:23 and Bergeron ran 18:45. Bergeron was repeat winner having won the 2008 5K race last year. SCC students Reyna Lubin and Brett Landry won the one mile race. Lubin set a new record in the one mile female division with a time of 6:14 beating her record setting run last year (6:15) by one second. Brett Landry set a new record in the one mile male division with a time 5:10 eclipsing the record of 5:18 set by Robert Dehoyas in 2006.

The top ten female runners in the 5K race were Mary Smith  (23:13), Victoria Young (25:10), Sara St. Vincent  (26:21), Meredith Keating,(29:06) , Lori Keating  (29:27), Jessie Braud (29:42), Gina Monica  (29:42), Courtney Guidry (30:35), Anna Faucheux (32:29), and Leslie Faucheux (32:34). Top ten in the 5K male division were Ben Bergeron (18:45), Drake Bourgeois (21:07), Chris Millet (21:24), Klay Olasin (21:32), Chris Graugnard  (21:55), Brett Landry (22:00), Jonathan Cancienne (23:08), Matthew Walters (23:16), Joseph Bergeron (24:12), and Chris Cancienne (24:20).

The top ten female runners in the one mile were Reyna Lubin (6:14), Erica Blank (6:17), Victoria Young (6:24), Dominique DiCarlo (6:50), Emily Bourgeois (7:06), Meg Gustafson (7:07), Maria Ramos (7:17) , Olivia Burns (7:19), Gabrielle Levet (7:29), and Sara St. Vincent (7:40). Top ten in the male one mile run were Brett Landry (5:10), Chris Graugnard (6:25), James Krawcyzk (5:46), Brady Hitt (6:04), Matt Torres (6:06), Neil Schexnayder (6:08), Zachary Loupe (6:10), Jonathan Arnoult (6:11), Trevor Brady  (6:12) and Jared Keating (6:15).

After the race over 100 awards and prizes were given out to participants. Local businesses helped to underwrite the race and donated door prizes. This year’s race was the most successful ever setting several new records including 285 runners and walkers erasing the old record of 275 set in 2008. Proceeds benefit the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes and help to finance their annual trip to summer camp.
