Offense, defense, special teams shine in Comets 38-0 win
With the Comet football season past the halfway mark, the Comets finally put all three phases of their game together in a 38-0 win over the 4A Assumption Mustangs Friday night in LaPlace. It was the second straight shutout for the Comets and their fourth in 7 games. While the offense continued to pile up yards and points the highlight of the night was the fact the they did not commit one turnover after having committed 9 in the previous two games. Tyrell Fenroy rushed for 251 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. He ran his season totals to 1193 yards and 25 rushing touchdowns. Defensively, David Rollo had 3 interceptions for the Comets who have now picked off 11 this season. Rollo also stripped the ball from a Mustang kick returner and picked it up and ran it in 14 yards for a touchdown. The Comets did get off to a slow start in the first half . Ben Sellars 20 yard field goal capped off a 14 play drive in the first quarter. It was the only scoring of the quarter and the Comet lead 3-0. Things started to improve in the 2nd quarter as the Comets moved 63 yards in 7 plays with Fenroy scoring on a 30 yard run on a counter play. The next two drives stalled for the Comets before they scored another touchdown following one of Rollo's interceptions. This time Fenroy scored from 8 yards out. Sellars PAT gave the Comets 17-0 halftime lead. The Comets used a 21 point third quarter scoring blitz to put the game away. Facing a 4th and goal form the Mustang 9 quarterback Jesse Martin connected with Casey Robottom in the corner of the endzone giving the Comets a 24-0 lead. On the next play Rollo picked up the fumbled kickoff and scored to break the game open for the Comets. The final touchdown came on a 32 yard run by Fenroy late in the 3rd quarter. The Comets travel to Donaldsonville to face the Tigers Friday night .
