Comets defeat BTW
45-14 for Win # 4

The Comets took advantage of key special team plays and defeated the B. T. Washington Lions 45-14 Friday night on a soggy field at Dupuy stadium. The big homecoming crowd enjoyed the win less than 30 hours after  Hurricane Lili had passed through the state leaving over 5 inches of rain on Comet field. The game concluded the Comets' preseason schedule with 10-AAA play opening next week with the Comets hosting the E. D. White Cardinals.

Tyrell Fenroy, a sophomore running back, scored four touchdowns in the game including two long kickoff returns of 90 and 92 yards. Fenroy's first touchdown came on a 3 yard run following a 50 yard drive on the Comets first offensive possession. The PAT failed and the Comets held a 6-0 lead. The Comets benefited from a bobbled snap on a punt that lead to the next touchdown. Cedric White scored on a one yard run and the Comets lead was 12-0. Reid Owens recovered tha fumble on the ensuing kickoff.. One play later Shane Waite scored on  a run of 14  yards. Later on following a blocked punt by Reid Owens, Waite scored again this time on a 6 yard run. The Comets only converted one of the first four PAT'S and lead 25-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Fenroy's scored his second touchdown  from one yard out and Sellars PAT put the Comets on  top 32-0. The touchdown was set-up by a interception by linebacker Toby Luquette. The Comets had a special teams breakdown on the ensuing kickoff and the Lions Aubrey Watson raced 85 yards for a touchdown. The Lions converted a two point play and the score stood 32-8 at the half.

Fenroy electrified the homecoming crowd with a 90 yard return of the  second half kickoff . Sellars added the PAT and the Comet lead swelled to 39-8 early in the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter the Lions scored their second touchdown and  trimmed the Comets lead to 39-14. But Fenroy returned the kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed and the Comets held a 45-14 lead that would stay that way until the end of the game.

The Comets host the E. D. White Cardinals next Friday in the 10-AAA opener for both teams. The Comets will bring a 4-0 record in the game having lost one game (Lawless fire) due to cancellation. The Cardinals will bring a 3-1 record in the game having lost one game to cancellation (South Terrebonne-Hurricane).
