Comets edge Donaldsonville 7-6
and get first district win

The Comets overcame four first half scoreless drives that ended in the red zone, and edged Donaldsonville 7-6 Friday night on a rainy and wet Friday night at Dupuy stadium. It was a much needed win for the Comets who were coming off of two tough district losses to E. D. White and St James. The Comets improved their overall record to 5-2 and upped their district mark to 1-2.

Trailing 6-0 at the half the Comets responded with a six play 66 drive to open the second half. Tyrell Fenroy blasted up the middle on a 33 yard touchdown run with 8:37 left in the third quarter. Ben Sellars extra point put the Comets on top 7-6. The score would hold up as the Comet defense dominated the second half allowing only 59 yards most of which came on the Tigers final two minute drive at the end of the game. The Tigers were unable to penetrate the Comets side of the field the entire second half.

Late in  the game with the Tigers moving towards midfield with less than two minutes, Comet linebacker  Jeremiah Johnson intercepted a pass that preserved the win for the Comets. After the turnover, the Comets were able to run out the clock.

The entire game was played in a steady rain that started about one hour before kickoff. Despite the bad weather, once again it was the play of the Comet special teams that enabled the Comet to pull off the victory. Four punts by Daniel Leblanc  were good for a 45 yard average. All snaps by center Travis Trepagnier were perfect on a night that could have easily produced a special team disaster.

Early in the game the Comets appeared to be a team out of energy and gas after two emotional and tough losses to e. D. White and St. James. Donalsonville scored their only touchdown of the game on a 3 yard run by fullback Oscar Bennett. The play was the 7th of a 80 yard rive. Big play was a 46 yard option keeper by Tiger quarterback Tremaine Brown.

The Comets had opportunities in the first  following two short punts by Donaldsonville that only traveled 9 and 11 yards.  The Comets had drives end at the Tiger 23,14,13, and 12 that produced no points. The Comets ended the first half on the Tiger 12 yard line as time expired.

Tyrell Fenroy, the Comets sophomore running back and kick return specialist,   rushed for 99 yards on 16 carries to lead the Comets offense.
