Comets celebrate Homecoming 2006
with a 42-0 shutout of Ben Franklin

The Comets rebounded from their only loss of the season to post their fourth shutout 42-0 over the Ben Franklin Falcons Friday night. The Comets welcomed home many distinguished alumni to celebrate Homecoming. And the football team responded with a big victory over an outmanned Ben Franklin team.

The Comets played every player that suited up for the game and were able to rest many starters after building a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.

It took only two plays for the Comets to light up the scoreboard after the defense forced a three and out on the Falcons first possession. Jonathan Cancienne carried for 21 yards on the first play and then 14 yards for his 15th touchdown of the season. Chris Ilski kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons would turn the ball over on their next possession with Garrett Biven recovering for the Comets. Cancienne scored 5 plays later on a 9 yard run.

The Comet special teams made the next big play as Corey Reed blocked a Falcon punt that was recovered by Garrett Biven. Two plays later quarterback Philip Sutton connected with Chase Fletcher on a 24 yard touchdown pass.

A Jonathan Cancienne punt return of 15 yards set up the Comets next score with Matt Walters running in from 9 yards out. Freshman running back Cody Scioneaux scored his first touchdown as a Comet in the second quarter on a 2 yard run. The touchdown gave the Comets a comfortable halftime lead of 35-0.

In the second half the Comet starters played only a few plays before giving way to JV and 9th graders.

On the Comet first possession of the second half the Comet drove 66 yards in 9 plays and scored the game's final touchdown. Quarterback Vincent Rollo tossed a 23 yard scoring pass to sophomore Alex Marse who scored his first varsity touchdown as a Comet.

The Comets had several other scoring opportunities but decided not to run up the score on the Falcons who are battling back from problems faced after hurricane Katrina.

Friday night the Comets return to 10-2A action facing the Riverside Rebels in Reserve.
