Comets suffer loss to John Curtis,
face Ben Franklin at home next

The Comets suffered their first loss of the season 40-0 Friday to the powerful John Curtis Patriots. Trailing 14-0 at the half having battled the nationally ranked team from River Ridge, the Comets could not match their first half intensity and it proved costly as the game quickly became one sided midway through the third quarter.

Curtis took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards in ten plays for the games first touchdown. Facing a 3rd and 22 from the Comet 43 yard line Patriot quarterback Kyle Collura found a open receiver behind the Comets secondarry and the touchdown gave the Pats a 6-0 lead. The extra point attempt was no good.

The Comets responded with one of their best drives of the night moving from their own 25 to the Curtis 32 yard line where the drive stalled. On a 4th down and 6 play the Comets pass fell incomplete.

After forcing the Patriots to punt after 3 downs, the Comets took over on their own 38. But three plays later they were forced to punt back to the Patriots. The two teams would continue to trade punts until the 2 minute mark late in the second quarter. Curtis moved from their own 44 yard line to the Comets 3 yard line and facing a 3rd and three scored on a dive play by Joe McKnight.

The Comets did not find it any easier to move the ball starting the second half with a three and out on their first possession. It only took John Curtis three plays to score as Collura hit Mcknight on play action pass from 31 yards out.

After the Comets next possession, the Patriots blocked the Comets punt and recovered in the endzone as the score swelled to 28-0 by the end of the third quarter. The Patriots added two more scores in the fourth quarter.

The 6-1 Comets will step out of district play to face the 4-A Ben Franklin Falcons Friday night in the Comets Homecoming game at Dupuy stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
