Comets defeat Donaldsonville
face John Curtis home Friday The Comets opened up district play against Donaldsonville. The Comets dominated the game despite an early Donalsonville lead. Chris Jones had another great night with 144-yards and three touchdowns. The defense played outstanding holding Donaldsonville to just 88-yards of total offense. Special teams played a big factor in the game blocking two punts that both lead to scores. Preston Landry was also perfect with 4 for 4 on extra points. The first quarter would be a bad quarter for the Comets. A Comet fumble by was picked up by Donaldsonville for a touchdown. Donaldsonville would miss the extra point for a 6-0 lead. Both teams would be shut out for the rest of the quarter with a Donaldsonville lead of 6-0. SCC would pick it up in the second quarter. A blocked punt by Jonathan Cancienne would set up a touchdown. Chris Jones would score from 3-yards out and give the Comets the lead. Chris Jones would not be finished and would score again on a 41-yard touchdown run to extend the lead. Donaldsonville would put together an impressive drive before the half, but the defense would stand strong and would not let them score. SCC would enter the second half with the lead of 14-6. They would add on to that lead when the special teams blocked another punt. Donaldsonville would jump on it but in the endzone for a saftey. The following drive Casey Robottom would score on a 23-yard run to make the score the score 23-6 at the end of the third quarter. The defense would just get better as the game went on. Jared Nowell and Garrad Lodrigues would both have an interception to stop Donaldsonville. Chris Jones would score once agin for the third time of the game. Jones would run it in from 4-yards out. Jonathan Cancienne who already had a block punt would score the final touchdown of the game for 37-6 victory. The victory gives the Comets a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 record in District. SCC continues district play next week against John Curtis. The game has been moved home at Dupuy Stadium. KIckoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday October 14th.
