Comets edge Bulldogs in thriller
The Comets beat Lutcher 28-26 Friday in one of the most exciting games ever played in Thomas Dupuy stadium. This was a key win for the Comets as they go 1-0 in the hunt for the district 9-3A title. Overall the Comets are now 4-1.
This game was exciting to say the least. It was played with a lot of intensity right up to the last whistle. Both teams came from behind twice in the game after it appeared the other team had captured the momentum for good.
Comet placekicker James Krawczyk nailed his first two field goal attempts of the season. The first was from 22 yards out in the first quarter. The second, field goal, which proved to be the game winner, was a 34 yard attempt with the Comets trailing Lutcher 26-25 with only 6 minutes left in the game.
Courtland Taylor and Marc Picciola both picked up a touchdown on the ground. Marc Picciola also hooked up with wide reciever Zack Goodwin for a 48 yard touchdown to help pull the Comets back into the game when they were down 19-10 in the third quarter. The Comet defense played tough against the potent Bulldog offense forcing four turnovers. Grant Authement picked off a pass and forced a fumble, and both turnovers were converted to points. Nick Reine jumped on two loose balls getting two fumble recoveries.
This Friday the Comets will play their Homecoming game against a tough Pope John Paul team in LaPlace at 7:00 p.m.
