Comets fall short in title game

The Comets played the last game of their 2005 season in Shreveport for the 2A State Championship. This was the first time in school history that a SCC football team would play for a State Championship. The Comets beat Farmerville, St. James, Jonesboro-Hodge, and Sterlington in the playoffs to get to the final game. The Comets would have a very tough task in the final game as they played John Curtis. The Comets gave it their best effort but would fall short to last year's 4A State Champion John Curtis.

The Comet defense would take the field first and stop John Curtis on their first drive by recovering a fumble. John Curtis would, however, score first as running back Joe Mcknight return a punt. A missed extra point would make it 6-0. John Curtis would score two more touchdowns before halftime for a score of 18-0.

The Comets would score for the first time in the 3rd quarter as Micheal Troglen picked up a fumble and ran it in for a touchdown. The Comets fought hard but would not manage to score again.  The final score would be 31-6 in favor of John Curtis.

The Comets had a great season as they finished 11-3 and 2-A State Runner-up. Thanks to all the fans that made this a remarkable season. Congratulations to the Comets for a great season.
