Comets defeat Pine 41-6,
travel to West St. John Friday
The Comets did not play their best football Friday night against Pine but still defeated the Red Raiders 41-6 at Dupuy stadium. With the win the Comets remain undefeated at 4-0. The game was the first to be played under the new lighting system which was installed last week.
Whilte the Comets continued to put up big numbers, the overall play on offense and defense was not as sharp as it was in the previous 3 wins against 5-A opponents. The pesky 2-A Raiders had several good athletes and would not quit despite trailing the entire game. The Comets committed 3 turnovers in the game after having only one in the first three games.
The Comets scored the first touchdown on a 6yard run by Jonathan Cancienne. The PAT was no good and the Comets led 6-0. Later in the first quarter quarterback Philip Sutton hit Chase Fletcher on a 21 yard scoring pass. The PAT was no good again and the Comets led 12-0 after one quarter.
Jonathan Cancienne scored on a one yard run and Chase Fletcher added the two point conversion to make the score 20-0 midway through the second quarter. Right before the half, senior defensive end Alex Vicknair intercepted a Pine pass and ran 98 yards for a touchdown.
The Comets scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter - one on a one yard pass from Sutton to Fletcher and the other on a 17 yard pass from junior quarterback Vincent Rollo to sophomore receiver T. J. Landry.
Pine scored a 4th quarter touchdown on a one yard run by Kyle Robinson to prevent the Comets from getting the 3rd shut-out in four games this season. The Comets have outscored their opposition 157-13 in four games.
Senior defensive lineman Nick Adams recovered a fumble and senior defensive back Kyle Faucheux and junior defensive back Jordan Millet intercepted passes for the Comet defense.
The Comets will travel to Edgard FRiday night to face the West St John Rams. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
