Comets roll in 56-7
win over Ponchatoula

The Comets continued to dominate their early season opponents with a 56-7 win over Ponchatoula Friday night at Dupuy stadium in Laplace. With the win the Comets record is now 2-0 as they look to their first road game against H.L. Bourgeois Friday night in Houma.

Running back Jonathan Cancienne rushed for five touchdowns and his second straight 100+ yard game as the Comet offense scored on its first five possessions of the game against the Green Wave of Ponchatoula. With the defense pitching another shut-out the Comets led 35-0 at the half.

The rushing attack was not the only thing clicking for the Comets as the passing game had its high marks as well. Senior wide receiver Matt Ericksen was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes in the first half - one 39 yards from back-up quarterback Vincent Rollo and the other 6 yards from senior quarterback Philip Sutton. Sutton finished the night with 7 completions on 9 attempts and 123 yards passing.

The Comet offense added three more scores in the second half two on Cancienne runs of 4 and 62 yards. The final score came on the game's last play when junior defensive back Corey Reed raced 57 yards with a fumble recovery.

Junior placekicker Chrtis Ilski connnected on 6 of 7 PAT'S and the Comets converted one two-point attempt on a Chase Fletcher run.

In the first quarter senior defensive end Garrett Biven blocked a punt which was recovered by Corey Reed. The Comet defense came very close to posting its second straight shut-out before allowing its only score of the season - a 21 yard halfback pass in the fourth quarter.

THe Comets played many younger players in the second half with every Comet suited up getting in the game.
