Comets defeat Riverside 36-20
travel to face St. James next

The Comets played rival Riverside Academy this past Friday night. This was the first time SCC played Riverside since 2000.The game started off with both teams scoring on their first drives of the night. SCC would end up taking the lead in the second quarter and would keep the lead the rest of the game. SCC pulled away at the end the game with the final score being 36-20 in favor of SCC.

SCC would recieve the opening kickoff and score first. The Comet offense would put up the longest drive of the year. The offense would march 71-yards in 17 plays. The drive would take eight minutes with Matt Walters scoring from 1-yard out. The two-point conversion run by Philip Sutton would make the score 8-0. Riverside would score right back on their first play on a 70-yard touchdown run by Lee Haydel. Riverside would also make a two-point conversion to make the score at the end of the first quarter 8-8.

Chris Jones would start off the second quarter with a 8-yard touchdown run to give the Comets the lead. Riverside would score again on a 8-yard run by Caeser but a blocked extra point by Roland Ricca would make the score 15-14 in favor of the Comets. The defense would stand strong on their next series forcing a fumble. Garrad Lodrigues would pick up the fumble and ramble 7 yards for a touchdown. Another two-point conversion, this time a Chris Jones run, would give the Comets a 23-14 lead. The defense would hold Riverside the rest of the half. Riverside would be forced to punt with only a couple of seconds left in the half. Casey Robottom would return the punt 76-yards for a touchdownas time expired to extend the Comets lead to 29 - 14 at the half.

The second half would not be as much scoring as the first. Riverside would manage to put up one touchdown at the end of the third quarter to close the gap. However, the defense would shut them down the rest of the game with an interception by Jared Nowell halting the final Rebel scoring threat. The Comet offense would score one final time in the fourth quarter. Philip Sutton would connect with Casey Robottom for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The final score would be 36-20 in favor of SCC.

The Comets improved to 7-1 on the season. Chris Jones had another game with over a 100 -yards and Casey Robottom had two-touchdowns on the night. Preston Landry would make 3 out 3 extra points on the night. The Comets next game will be Friday November 4 at St. James. The Comets travel to play St. James for the last regular season game of the year. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
