Comets open season with 30-6 win
over South Lafourche on the road

The Comets defense and special teams continued to shine while the offense began to show signs of life in a season opening 30-6 win at South Lafourche last Friday night.

The Comets special teams contributed with 3 field goals , 7 touchbacks on kickoffs and several nice returns. Senior Chris Ilski kicked field goals of 43,39 and 34 yards and boomed the ball into the endzone on kickoffs. Jonathan Cancienne had 4 returns for 145 yards.

The defense was headed for a shutout before allowing a long touchdown run late in the game. Even with the long touchdown run, South Lafourche was able to muster only 162 yards total offense. Zach Matus and Johnny Fisse both intercepted passes for the Comets.

Offensively Cancienne rushed 17 times for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Vincent Rollo completed 9 of 15 passes for 170 yards and 1 touchdown. Alex Marse had 4 catches and one touchdown while Devin Snyder had 3 catches for 80 yards.

The Comets came out of the gate fast with two first quarter touchdowns. Jonathan Cancienne shed several tacklers scoring on a 35 run. Zach Matus intercepted a pass setting up Canicienne's second touchdown an 11 yard run.

Ilski kicked two field goals of 43 and 39 yards in the second quarter as the Comets led 20-0 at the half. In the third quarter Alex Marse was on the receiving end of a 11 yard touchdown pass from Vincent Rollo as the Comets lead swelled to 27-0. Ilski kicked a 34 yard field goal midway in the fourth quarter to make the final 30-6.

Thursday night the Comets travel to face Higgins in a rare Thursday night game. Kickoff is at 7.pm.
