Comets Shutout Sterlington 23-0
advance to 2A State Championship

The Comets made history this past Friday night as they hosted the 2A semifinal game against Sterlington. The Comets took the lead first and kept it for the rest of the game. The Comets only had a 3-0 lead at halftime but put up three touchdowns in the second half for a 23-0 victory. The Comet defense played very well as they shut out the number one ranked team in 2A. The Comet offense also played well as they put up 23 points and had 293-yards of total offense. The Comets last game of the year will be played this Friday at Shreveport for the 2A State Championship against John Curtis.

The first half of the game was filled with miscues and turnovers. Comets would fumble just one time but turn the ball over on downs another time. Sterlington would have three fumbles and an interception. The Comets capitalize on Sterlington's first mistake. Jonathan Cancienne would block a punt that lead to a Ben Benedetto field goal. The field goal would be the only score of the first halfas the Comets lead 3-0.

The Comets would receive the opening kickoff of the second half and Casey Robottom would take it all the way to the Sterlington 17-yard line. Chase Fletcher would finish the job on screen play and run it 15-yards for the score. The defense would be dominate in the second half as Casey Robottom would return an interception all the way to the one yard line. Matt Walters would stick it in the very next play. Philip Sutton would score the final touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run. The Comets would go on to win 23-0.

The Comet football team made history as they beat Sterlington by being the first team ever to make it to the state finals. SCC will play last year's 4A state champion John Curtis. The game is in Shreveport in Independence Stadium. Kickoff will be at 1:00 pm.
