Comets Beat St. James,
Advance to Quarterfinals

With the game coming down to the last play, St Charles stopped St. James on the five yard line for a 21-19 win for SCC. The offense put up 21 points while the defense held their own by allowing 19 points for a very big win. Ben Benedetto would come through for Comets with a 63-yard touchdown pass reception and making two huge field goals. The win moves the Comets to the quarterfinals where they will travel up north to play Jonesboro-Hodge.

The game would not start off good for the Comets. St. James would score first on a 58-yard touchdown run by St. James running back Luther Ambrose. The Wildcats would, however, miss the extra point. SCC would answer back very quickly. Philip Sutton would connect with Casey Robottom for a 72-yard pass to put the Comets on the five yard line. The very next play Chris Jones would run it in for a touchdown. Preston Landry would make the extra point to give SCC the lead 7-6. Before the end of the half, Benedetto would make a 40-yard field goal to extend the Comet lead to 10-6.

In the second half St. James would score first. A one-yard touchdown by St. James would give them back the lead. SCC would answer back again. This time the Comets would score through the air. Philip Sutton connected with Ben Benedetto for a 63-yard touchdown pass. The Comets would be successful on a two point conversion. Sutton would hand the ball to Robottom who would then throw it make to Sutton for the two-point conversion. In the fourth quarter the Comets would add another field goal for a 21-12 lead. St. James would cut the lead to only two with another touchdown. With only seconds left and St. James having the ball on their own 48-yard line down 21-19, there was time for one more play. St. James would had it off to Ambrose who would break loose but would be denied the endzone by Jared Nowell and group of SCC defenders. SCC won 21-19.

Comets travel to Jonesboro-Hodge this week. The game is scheduled Friday, November 25. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
