Comets defeat West Feliciana 42-12;
regional playoffs next at Lutcher Friday

The Comets opened the state playoffs with an impressive 42-12 win over the visiting West Feliciana Saints Friday night in Dupuy stadium in LaPlace . With the victory the Comets advance to the regional round and face district and River Parish rival Lutcher Bulldogs in Lutcher Friday.

The bi-district game against West Feliciana was a tight one for the first half with the Comets holding on to a slim one point 14-13 lead. On the Saints first possession of the second half, Comet defensive back Justin Vicknair intercepted a pass and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. The play seemed to ignite the Comets who went on to outscore the Saints 28-0 in the second half.

The game started slowly for the Comets as the offense failed to score on its first possession while the defense gave up a 93 yard scoring drive on the Saints first possession. The Comets fell behind 7-0 near the end of  the first quarter.

It did not get better on the Comets next possession as the Comets fumbled the ball over to the Saints. But the Saints returned the favor as they fumbled back to the Comets with Jordan Millet recovering at the Comet 26. This seemed to be the spark the Comet needed as they drove 74 yards in 14 plays for their  first score of the game. Quarterback Vincent Rollo completed a 10 yard screen pass to receiver Alex Marse who darted into the endzone. Chris Ilski’s PAT tied the game at 7.

On the Saints next possession Jordan Millet forced a fumble that was recovered by Corey Reed on the Saints 36. On the next play Courtland Taylor dashed 36 yards around right end for a touchdown giving the Comets a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Ilski’s kick made the score 14-7 midway through the second quarter.

The teams traded fumbles once again before the Saints went on another scoring drive that ended on a short touchdown run. A two point try failed and the score stood 14-13 in favor of  SCC at the half.

The second half belonged to the Comets as they scored on every possession after the Vicknair interception early in the third quarter. Rollo completed a 16 yard pass to Devin Snyder on the final play of the third quarter at put the Comets up 28-13. In the 4th quarter Courtland Taylor and Jason Ray scored a three yard runs.

Taylor finished the game with 97 yards and two touchdowns. Rollo completed 16 of 21 passes for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns.
