Comets defeat WSJ Rams 29-12

The Comets played WSJ this past friday and were looking for some payback from the embrassing 68-45 loss to the Rams last year. The Comets had a rough start and WSJ would score first but the Comets would, however, come back to win. Chris Jones would help lead the offense with having over 100 yards rushing and a touchdown along with Chase Fletcher who had two touchdowns. The Comet defense had a big game by picking off a pass and recovering three fumbles.

The first quarter was full of mistakes and turnovers by both teams. The Comets would make the first big mistake. WSJ would score first on a 87-yard interception return for a touchdown. WSJ failed to make the extra point but would take an early 6-0 lead. The offense would strike back on their next drive. Chase Fletcher would score on a 4-yard touchdown run after a very impressive eight play drive. SCC lead 7-6 after the first quarter.

The Comets entered the second quarte rwith the lead and would extend the lead on a touchdown by Chase Fletcher. Fletcher punched in the touchdown from 2-yards out. WSJ continued to make mistakes. WSJ fumbled on their goalline and Ross Roubion jumped on the ball for a touchdown. A two-point conversion gave the Comets a 22-6 lead. Before the first half was over, WSJ would cut into the lead on a touchdown pass from Olajuwan Hall. The score would be 22-12 at halftime.

In the third quarter WSJ would continue to make mistakes. Ben Benedetto would recover a fumble to give the ball back to the offense. Chris Jones would score eight plays later to increase the lead. Landry's kick would make the score 29-12. The fourth quarter would remain scoreless with the Comet offense keeping the ball most of the quarter and just running out the clock.

The final score of 29-12 gave the Comets a hard earned victory. The Comets advance to 4-0 on the season. SCC's next game will be it[s frist 10-2A district game against undefeated Donaldsonville Tigers. The game will be Friday, October 7 at Dupuy Stadium. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
