Higgins overwhelms Comets 37-7
The Comets had revenge set on their mind as they perpared to play the L.W. Higgins Hurricanes for Saturday afternoon game. Although the Comets took the early lead, the Hurricanes would go on to score 37 unanswered points.
The Comet offense came out firing, as the passing game set up a 14 yard touchdown run by Courtland Taylor. After the special teams came up big with a blocked punt, the Comet offense didn't take advantage of the opporitunity to make it a two possesion game. Later in the first quarter, the Higgins defense force a fumble and returned it for a touchdown. The Comets offense would give up the ball again and Higgins would strike again. The defense was playing well, but on a crucial 3rd down play the Comets gave up a 77 yard touchdown run.
The first drive of the second half proved to be the drive that put the game away for the Hurricanes, as they marched down the field for 17 play drive that led to a touchdown. The Comets had a rough game, but special teams was a high point. Don't expect this kind of score next week as the Comets will continue to improve.
The Comets eagerly await their next game against the East Ascension Spartans. This will be the first Friday night game for the Comets. This will be the first of a very tough three game road stretch. Be sure to show your support for the Comets at East Ascension Friday at 7:00.
