Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Athletes, Coaches attend FCA camp

in Black Mountain, North Carolina

In early July, a group of 13 Comet athletes and 2 coaches traveled over 1500 miles round trip to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina to participate in a week of "inspiration and perspiration." They joined over 300 athletes and 150 coaches, adults, and family members for a Fellowship of Christian Athlete camp at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, N.C.

The group actually returned to the same place that many former Comet coaches and athletes had been in years past (1985-1992). This trip also helped celebrate 25 years of River Parish athletes attending such camps across the country. It was SCC head  coach  Frank Monica who first started FCA and these camp trips in 1976 at Lutcher High School.

The camp offered weeklong activities that included athletic competition, clinics,  and  assemblies with music and testimonies from pro and college athletes and coaches. The highlight of the camp for many was the awesome worship and  praise led by "Herb" Moon.

Herb's friendly smile and contemporary beat help everyone sing, jump, and dance all week long. Pro football greats Sean Gilbert (Carolina Panthers), and David Rocker (retired from the Rams) were two of the speakers that shared at the night assemblies.

Free time in the afternoon offered the opportunity to climb even more mountains or just rest and relaxation and some story telling of events of the week .
