Comets Crush Loranger

The Comets continued to use the same recipe of stingy defense, opportunistic offense and excellent special teams and rolled over the Loranger Wolves 42-0 last Friday night in Laplace. It was the Comets' fourth straight win without a loss. It gives the Comets their best start in 5 years.
In the first quarter the Comets converted two fumbles and a blocked punt into 21  points. Taking over on the Loranger 36, 11, and 18 the Comets took advantage of excellent field position and scored on their first three possessions. The Comets have gotten out of the starting blocks fast with a total of  76 points in the first quarter this season.

Quarterback Jason Waguespack continued to have a hot hand throwing a 24 yard touchdown pass to John Bordelon to light up the scoreboard early in the game. The touchdown was set-up by a recovered fumble at the Wolves 36.
The Comets blocked a punt to set-up the second touchdown this one a  11 yard run by Shane Waite.
Another fumble recovery set-up a short 1 yard touchdown run by Todd Babin as the Comets closed out the first quarter ahead 21-0. Waguespack added all three PAT's.
In the second quarter the Comets marched 72 yards on 10 plays for another touchdown. This time Waguespack connected with Bordelon again from 15 yards out. Bordelon made a nice diving catch in the corner of the
end zone. The PAT made the halftime score 28-0.
The Comets received the second half kickoff and marched 80 yards for a touchdown with Waite plowing in behind the left side of the Comet offensive line.
Later on in the quarter quarterback Mike Grady tossed a 5 yard scoring pass to Chase Grob for the Comets final touchdown of the game. Steven Ramirez kicked the last two PAT's for the Comets.
Coming up with big plays on defense for the Comets were Chris Cancienne, Jeremiah Johnson, Shanon Graver, and Daniel LeBlanc with fumble recoveries. Jerry Gair had a pass interception. Derrick Mayeux blocked a Loranger punt to set-up a Comet touchdown.
The Comets will host the B.T. Washington Lions this Friday night as Homecoming 2001 is celebrated in Thomas Dupuy
stadium. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
