Quarterback Club boosts football program

Walking down the quiet and darkened halls of St. Charles Catholic High School after school around 6:30 P.M. on Tuesdays you can start to smell the excellent food that is being served for meetings. As you keep moving you began to hear the voice of LSU All-American Jerry Stovall over the P.A. system. Coach Frank Monica really takes a special kind of interest when he is selecting speakers for this group of Comet Supporters.

Coach Paul Waguespack said, “The Quarterback Club is a really great program. It is getting bigger and bigger each year. The coaches really enjoy going to the meetings.”

The gatherings recognize the young men who had a fanatical effort in the previous game as well as the best offensive, defensive, and special team player of the week. Another very important recognition is the "Kodak of the week" for the offense and defense.

The Kodaks are the scout team players that run the opponents plays to help the starters prepare for the upcoming game. The "Kodak of the week" is a very big honor. This is a person who is going 110% at practice to make the starters better.

Parents come to these meetings and enjoy that they can talk to the coach about the next game find out what their plan is and to listen to Coach Monica talk about the previous game. Hearing their child’s name called out in recognition for their efforts really puts a smile on the parent’s faces.

One of the new things at the meetings this year is that highlights from the previous game are played on the 'state of the art' HD televisions in the Comet Commons. Parents, coaches and all Comet fans are able to enjoy the best plays from the previous game on the big 52 inch LCD screens.

The Quarterback Club has been in existence since 1985. The group has done amazing things for SCC’s football program. The most recent major project the Quarterback Club has completed is the new Cometplex. Many of the Comet football player parents spent countless hours of their day after work to make this great facility for the players and coaching staff.

The Quarterback Club has been the provider of the team’s great facilities such as:  the painting of the Cometplex, a new fence, laying down a new cement walkway, and assembling the new visitor bleachers. Coach Monica said “I would not know what I would do without the Quarterback Club. They make sure that the players, starsteppers, cheerleaders, and drum core have a post game meal for away games.”

The SCC staff works countless hours due to the renovations every week. The Quarterback Club parents and fans in the Comet Commons make this sacrifice easier by being the major support system for the Comet football program.
