Comets Defeat Terrebonne 41-12 in Season Opener The Comets started the 2004 season with a 34 point first half explosion against 5A Terrebonne and held on to defeat the Tigers 41-12 in Houma last Friday night. The Comet offense scored on five of six first half possessions with the Comet defense settling down after allowing Terrebonne to score on its first possession. It took only
6 plays and a little over 2 minutes to get on the scoreboard with Tyrell
Fenroy bolting 35 yards for touchdown. The PAT was no good and the Comets
held a 6-0 lead. Terrebonne marched 72 yards in 9 plays to tie the
score at 6. The Comet offense turned the ball over on its next possession but the defense got it right back held on a fourth and one on the 32 yard line. The Comets then marched 67 yards in 11 plays the gain the lead. Fenroy scored the second of his five touchdowns on a one yard plunge. Sellars converted the PAT and the Comets lead 13-6. Two plays after the kickoff the Comets recovered the first of three Tiger fumbles putting the Comet offense in business on the Tiger 12 yard line. Kerry Louque's fumble recovery set-up Tyrell Fenroy's 12 yard touchdown run and Sellars' PAT made the score 20-6 with 9:11 remaining in the first half. The Comet
defense held the Tigers in check once again and Casey Robottom's punt
return put the Comets offense in good field position
near midfield.
Eight plays later the Comets scored on another one yard run by
Fenroy. The Comets' first half scoring spree continued after Mark Murphy recovered a fumble deep in Tiger territory. This time quarterback Jesse Martin passed 3 yards to tight end Michael Oncale to give the Comets a 34-6 halftime lead. The Comet offense marched 66 yards on just 6 running plays to score on its first possession of the second half. Fenroy ran 43 yards around right end and Sellars kick gave the Comets a 41-6 lead. The Comets allowed one more touchdown late in the game to make the final 41-12. Tyrell Fenroy rushed for 179 yards on just 12 carries. He scored five touchdowns. Jesse Martin completed 11 of 14 passes for 118 yards. The Comet defense recovered three fumbles. |
