Reine, Wadhwa, Newman lead Class of 2007
The 56th graduation class at
St. Charles
Catholic
High School
received diplomas following a mass May 18th at Ascension of Our Lord Church in
LaPlace
. Reverend Walter Austin, the school’s chaplain, was the main celebrant for the Graduation Mass for the 103 members of the Class of 2007. Diplomas were distributed by Andrew Cupit, principal.
Valedictorians were Addy N. Reine and Rekha G. Wadhwa. Reine, the daughter of Kent and Jane Reine of
LaPlace
, finished with a GPA of 4.82. She attended SCC on an Academic Achievement Scholarship. Reine was a member of the French Club, Student Council, and the SCC Ambassadors Club. She also excelled in athletics as a member of the cheerleaders and the softball team. She was a three-year starter at shortstop and earned all-district honors as a senior. She was also named to the LHSAA Composite Academic All-State Softball Team. She was offered over $ 251,000 in scholarships. Reine will attend LSU on the Louisiana Freshman Merit Award Scholarship and will major in biological sciences with a concentration in secondary education. Following her undergraduate work, she plans to attend medical school to become a radiologist.
Wadhwa, the daughter of Dr. Manjit and Semi Wadhwa of LaPlace, also finished with a 4.82 GPA. She was a member of the SCC Ambassadors Club, Student Council, and Library Club. Wadhwa served as freshman class president and was also president of the Spanish club. She was a member of the Starsteppers dance team and served as co-captain in her senior year. Wadhwa was offered over $ 262,000 in scholarships. She will attend Tulane on the Tulane Distinguished Scholars Award and the Tulane Valedictorian Scholarship. Wadhwa will major in pre-med and plans to become a doctor.
Salutatorian was Melissa A. Newman. Newman, the daughter of David and Daphine Newman of
LaPlace
, finished with a GPA of 4.81. Newman was a member of the Peer Ministry Team, Extra-Ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, SCC Ambassadors Club, and served as president of the French Club. Newman also was a member of the cross country and basketball teams. She was named to the LHSAA Composite Academic All-State Basketball Team. She will attend
Louisiana
State
University
on the Louisiana Tuition Opportunity Performance Scholarship. She will major in Biological Science and plans to become a veterinarian.
Honor graduates were Ashley R. Brouwer, Gina M. Monica, Chase P. Bourg, Brandon M. Lienhop, Emily C. St. Martin, Hollie C. Vicknair, and Kristen T. Louque.
