“Freshman year, graduation seemed like it would never be here, but four years later it seems like the time flew by,” she said. Despite the devastation that Hurricane Katrina brought to New Orleans , Montz now has a lasting memory and great friendships that grew out of the situation. “Many students from schools in New Orleans came to SCC for half of my sophomore year,” she said. “I became great friends with people I would not have otherwise met, and it was a fun experience.”

Attending LSU in the fall to work toward a Ph.D. in dentistry, Montz hopes to practice cosmetic dentistry eventually as her way of giving back.“I would like to thank all of my teachers and my parents for their support and motivation,” she said.

Montz earned more than $17,000 in scholarships including an LSU Merit Award and the TOPS Honor Scholarship.

Salutatorian was Crystal J. Singleton, the daughter of Milton and Janice Singleton of LaPlace . She finished with a GPA of 4.78 and more than $98,000 in scholarships to various colleges and universities, including the TOPS Honor Scholarship. “It is a great achievement to be recognized for all of my hard work over the past four years,” she said.

Singleton was a member of the Starstepper dance team, Student Council, and the Natinoal Honors Society. She participated as a member of the Spanish Club, Pro-Life Club and the Library Club. Many memories were made for her while dancing on the Comet football field. “It is a feeling, you know that feeling when you walk in the stadium, the feeling of excitement and complete energy and adrenaline,” she said.

Attending LSU in the fall, Singleton plans to study Biology with intent on earning a Ph.D. as a doctor or surgeon. She thanks her mother and father and family members for their support throughout her high school tenure.
