Aside from being named Valedictorian, Brouwer is one of the handful of students who represent St. Charles Catholic’s first Eighth Grade class at this year’s graduation.
“I am going to miss the friends I have made and the family environment because it is going to be so big at college,” Brouwer said.
Much of her academic success can be attributed to Mrs. Melanie Lohfink, Mrs. Peggy Bordelon, Ashley Brouwer, and her mother who pushed her to do the best that she could in all aspects of her tenure at SCC. However, her defining moment came just this year when Brouwer participated in the French Exchange Program.
“I never thought I would have friends who would live across the ocean,” she said. “It was cool to really use the French I had been taught in the classroom. It made it real.”
Delatte, the son of Randy and Stacy Delatte of LaPlace, earned a GPA of 4.85 and more than $ 388,700 in scholarships, including $194,376 to the University of Notre Dame where he plans to major in business. Delatte is also part of the first eighth grade class that graduates from
“My defining moment at SCC was my decision to attend eighth grade here,” he said. “ This was the best decision of my life, and it allowed me to get a head-start on high school. My eighth grade year showed me that SCC was the perfect place for me.”
A National Merit Finalist Scholarship recipient, Delatte was a member of the golf team, retreat team, French Club, National Honors Society, and Beta Club. He enjoys the business field, with math being his favorite subject, and is looking forward to learning more extensive math in order to apply it to the real world.
“For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to go to Notre Dame. Getting in has been a source of motivation for me throughout my academic career,” he said. “When I received the opportunity and scholarships came, I could not pass it up.”
Delatte says he is glad to be able to share in this honor with Emily and Kristine. “Being in most of the same classes, we had a difficult schedule and worked together often during the year,” he said. “It is only fitting that the three of us should share the honor.”
Additionally, he credits his success to his parents and his teachers for establishing an importance on education.
The salutatorian was Brooke B. Becker, the daughter of Donnell and Eugene Becker of
While at SCC, Becker was a member of the Student Council, Beta Club, Science Club, National Honor’s Society, Spanish Club, and the Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball teams.
“I am going to miss sports because I like to compete and I really love all of my coaches and teammates,” she said. This year, Becker scored her 2,000th point for the Comets, setting a school record, and ending out her sporting career on a high note.
Becker has plans to attend
“I would like to thank Mrs. Lohfink, Mrs. Levin and M rs. Jeandron because they were very challenging, but at the same time they were really good friends,” she said. “I love science, and have a new love for Chemistry and Biology after these past few years. I want to use that to help people.”
