Overnight Retreat Hits Home
For Seniors |
|||||||||||
| On Friday, March 24, seventy-nine memebers of the senior class left for the senior overnight retreat. The retreat is voluntary and open for all seniors that wish to participate. The two day overnight was filled with many fun activities and speeches. The weekend even started off with a bang, when a bus tire blew out on one of the buses carrying the students.
The three keynote speakers for the weekend were Mr. Brian Butler, Coach Don Fernandez, and Sister Nicholas from Holy Name of Jesus School. Brian Butler kicked off the retreat with an inspirational speech on being molded by God. He told the senior class his personal story, about how God shaped his life and led him to where he is today. Hailey Kosztolanyi said, "After hearing Brian Butler's talk, it got me pumped up for the rest of the retreat." Mr. Butler also sang a few songs off of his CD, and even took requests from a few students. Unfortunately, Brian could not stay for the entire retreat, so Coach Don and Sister Nicholas spoke to the class on Saturday. Coach Don spoke about the paths of life, and how God has a certain call for each one of us. Sister Nicholas later spoke to the class about commitment and the vocations that each of us can choose. |

| Apart from the guest speakers, the senior's other favorite parts were, of course, the activities. Some of the favorite activities of the weekend were the yarn webs, the skits by both faculty and students, the Way of the Cross, affiirmation circles, and the senior letters. Other activities included molding symbols out of playdough, drawing posters, and line dancing. Seniors also received free time throughout the retreat. During this time, some seniors enjoyed fishing, making s'mores, and hanging out around the camp fire.
Senior letters are always a favorite time during the retreat. Letters were written by famliy and friends to any senior participating in the retreat. The letters evoke many emotions, ranging from laughing to crying. It was an emotional event for everyone. Also the prayer chair was a popular favorite. The prayer chair took place Saturday night. But unfortunately, we can't share what the prayer chair is or what happens during this time. According to Chris Waguespack, Matt Heltz, and Dan Bergeron, "What 's said in the chapel, stays in the chapel." |
